Lil Pump Makes Bold Move by Tattooing ‘Solana’ on Forehead to Promote LILPUMP Coin
American rapper Gazzy Garcia, known as Lil Pump, has caused a stir with his latest tattoo featuring the blockchain platform Solana in an effort to promote the meme coin LILPUMP.
Taking to Twitter on June 13th, Lil Pump unveiled his new forehead ink, showcasing the word “Solana” and its logo. He went on to announce that he had offloaded all his Solana holdings, adding an element of absurdity to the situation.
In the same tweet, Lil Pump included a token address associated with the recently launched Lil Pump token ($LILPUMP), which saw a remarkable 700% surge in value after his announcement, as per Dex Screener data.
He also reached out to the cryptocurrency exchange Binance, inquiring about a potential listing for the coin on major exchanges, sparking speculation about his motives.
The unconventional tattoo choice didn’t sit well with fans on Instagram, with some expressing disappointment at the rapper’s decision. One follower reminisced about the “old Pump,” while another criticized the idea of replacing existing tattoos with what they deemed as “sillier ones.”
Among the varied responses, questions arose about the authenticity of the tattoo and its potential impact on the price of Solana. A particularly enthusiastic commenter exclaimed, “To the moon! Gucci gain, Gucci gain, Gucci gain!”
Many in the community view Lil Pump’s actions as a strategic move to capitalize on the current trend of celebrity-backed cryptocurrencies, a trend that has faced challenges such as allegations of insider trading and market manipulation.
While most celebrity-backed crypto projects have suffered setbacks recently, Lil Pump’s promotional efforts mark a continued interest in launching such ventures.
Criticism against celebrity-backed memecoins has been on the rise, with Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin voicing concerns about the need for more substantial and impactful projects in the crypto space.
In a related incident, controversial figure Andrew Tate endorsed a Solana-based memecoin named Daddy Tate (DADDY) on June 11, overshadowing Iggy Azalea’s project despite allegations of insider trading.
Analytics firm Bubblemaps flagged suspicious activity surrounding Tate’s promoted token, pointing to significant insider buying prior to the project gaining traction. The firm highlighted 11 wallets that collectively acquired 20% of the DADDY token supply, raising questions about the fairness of the distribution.
Similar allegations of insider trading were made against Azalea’s token MOTHER in May, underscoring the challenges faced by celebrity-backed memecoins in the crypto market. Despite the hurdles, celebrities continue to launch new tokens, navigating a landscape fraught with risks and uncertainties.
