The unauthorized posts, which appeared on Tuesday and were later removed, promoted a nascent Pump.fun memecoin that seemed to be associated with her name. The deceptive campaign suggested that Sweeney herself had launched the token, with messages proclaiming, “The moment has arrived. SWEENEY is now active, with a 100 million cap imminent.”
In a bizarre twist, the hackers also dubbed Sweeney the “Queen of Sol,” and took jabs at figures like Sahil Arora, a notorious figure in the memecoin marketing sphere. This incident marks the second security compromise of Sweeney’s account this year; previously, in January, her profile was manipulated to boost a Solana-based adult-themed token.
Despite some Twitter crypto enthusiasts recognizing the sham, the SWEENEY token’s market capitalization surged past $1 million following the ruse. Sweeney regained control of her account within an hour and promptly expunged the misleading tweets, though she has yet to comment publicly on the matter.
The individuals responsible for the SWEENEY token openly confessed to the hack on a Telegram channel, also taking credit for similar breaches involving 50 Cent and Hulk Hogan’s accounts. They hinted at plans to target another high-profile celebrity soon but withheld specifics. They enticed crypto traders with a presale offer, requiring a minimum of 5 SOL (valued at $740 at the time) to be sent to an undisclosed Solana address.
As celebrity-endorsed memecoins gain traction, they increasingly attract fraudulent schemes. For example, Dimitri Leslie Roger, better known as Rich The Kid, was observed sharing a link to acquire his newly minted token, ‘RICH.’ Those posts were subsequently deleted, and the rapper has neither verified nor refuted the token’s authenticity.
