The discussion began when a Twitter user asked CZ if he had a dog. This simple question quickly spiraled into a flurry of speculation, with many users clamoring for the dog’s name and photo, presumably to launch a corresponding meme coin. CZ, appearing both amused and intrigued, questioned how such coins gain legitimacy and pondered whether he should share his dog’s details. His contemplation has since led to increased activity on the BNB Chain, which recently overtook Solana in market capitalization.
Now, the crypto community eagerly awaits CZ’s decision, wondering if this potential meme coin could become the next viral sensation.

The entire episode began around midnight on February 13 (Beijing time) when a user on X (formerly Twitter) named Vee asked CZ a simple question: “Do you have a pet dog?” CZ, who has been increasingly active on social media, responded affirmatively, clarifying that his dog is not a Shiba Inu but a Belgian Malinois. This revelation made the crypto community frenzy, with numerous users requesting the dog’s name and photo. 
Recognizing the underlying motivation behind these questions, CZ playfully responded: “Honest newbie question. How does this work?”
The crypto community responded to his tweet with explanations detailing how meme coins operate and how a consensus mechanism typically determines the “official” coin. As the responses poured in, CZ appeared to be weighing his options, later tweeting,
This statement immediately fueled speculation that if CZ were to officially acknowledge a meme coin, it would likely launch on the BNB Chain.
The Broader Trend of Celebrity Meme Coins
CZ’s potential foray into the meme coin space aligns with a growing trend of celebrity-driven tokens. Over the past few years, the meme coin market has exploded, with dog-themed cryptocurrencies like Dogecoin (DOGE) and Shiba Inu (SHIB) achieving multi-billion-dollar market capitalizations. More recently, social media influencers and celebrities have driven the launch of various meme coins, some with great success, while others have sparked controversy. For example, Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy has openly promoted meme coins based on himself, actively investing and engaging with the community. Conversely, rapper Kanye West has been highly critical of such projects, to the extent of even turning down $2 million to promote one indirectly.
In CZ’s case, while he has not committed to launching a meme coin, his engagement has already triggered heightened interest in the BNB Chain. Speculators have even begun searching through old Binance posts and interviews, attempting to uncover the name of CZ’s dog. 
Some users claim to have found potential names like Perry, Bean, Maverick, and Cleo, while others have offered large bounties to anyone with insider knowledge. Given that the BNB Chain has already seen a surge in activity, a CZ-endorsed meme coin could further boost it to an unprecedented level. However, CZ’s statements suggest he remains cautious. His tweet, “Nah, that would be lying. If we do it, we do it proper. It’s just sharing a photo and name of a dog,” indicates that he values authenticity over mere speculation.
