Telegram has introduced a new digital payment token within its messaging app, known as “Telegram Stars.” This feature allows users to make in-app purchases and is compatible with both iOS and Android devices.
According to a recent update from Pavel Durov, the CEO of the company, Telegram Stars enables mini apps to accept payments for digital services. Additionally, developers can exchange their Stars for Toncoin (TON), the token of The Open Network, through the Fragment exchange.
The value of TON experienced a significant increase recently, rising by 10% and entering the top 10 cryptocurrencies by market capitalization. Developers can withdraw their Stars via Fragment using TON and can also use Stars to promote their apps on Telegram at favorable terms.
The surge in Telegram’s mini apps has attracted millions of users daily. One popular mini app on Telegram, Hamster Kombat, has seen rapid growth. In this simulator game, players can boost their exchange income by purchasing “upgrade cards” and completing quests.
Hamster Kombat recently announced reaching millions of subscribers and becoming the top channel on Telegram in terms of users. Durov highlighted that the rise in mini apps has established Telegram as the go-to platform for launching new apps, with Stars and ad subsidies taking it to new heights.
Apple and Google will receive a 30% commission when users purchase Stars through them. However, Telegram will subsidize ads bought with Telegram Stars, eliminating the commission if developers reinvest Stars into promoting their apps.
In April, Telegram collaborated with the stablecoin issuer to launch Tether (USDT) on the TON blockchain, aiming to drive crypto adoption through the platform. Stay updated by following us on Google News.
