Argentinian regulators have engaged in discussions with authorities in El Salvador regarding the adoption of Bitcoin (BTC), as confirmed by the National Securities Commission of Argentina (CNV) over the weekend. According to an official notice from the Argentinian CNV and a report from Criptonoticias, high-ranking officials met with the head of El Salvador’s National Digital Assets Commission last week. The two countries are reportedly considering potential cooperation agreements in relation to digital assets. The CNV officials visited El Salvador to gain insights into the government’s regulation of BTC, with Criptonoticias suggesting that an “alliance” centered around Bitcoin is being formed. CNV President Roberto Silva and Vice President Patricia Boedo held talks with Juan Carlos Reyes, the President of El Salvador’s National Commission for Digital Assets. The Argentine officials expressed their interest in learning more about El Salvador’s experience with adopting Bitcoin as legal tender, with Silva praising the creation of the CNAD by the Salvadoran government. Boedo had previously visited El Salvador in March for preliminary technical meetings. The CNV has confirmed that discussions also covered important aspects of Bitcoin regulation. Reyes acknowledged Argentina as a pioneer in the technology sector and expressed the CNV’s desire to collaborate effectively with the Bitcoin and digital assets industries and establish appropriate regulation. This development may bring some relief to Argentina’s Bitcoin and crypto communities, as the government has faced pressure from the IMF to regulate the crypto sector and has implemented various regulations on crypto exchanges in response. However, the growing relationship between Argentina and El Salvador may pave the way for more favorable and less restrictive regulations in Argentina.
