Russia’s energy chief has stated that the country’s capacity for crypto mining could potentially increase by 6.9 gigawatts (GW). Currently, Russia’s cumulative crypto mining capacity stands at 2.7 GW, but domestic miners are looking to expand their network by 2.5 times. Data centers with 2.5 GW of power already have the necessary technical conditions for grid connection. However, the increase in capacity may pose challenges for the grid, as industrial production in Russia has been steadily rising. Some regions, like southeastern Siberia, still face energy deficits, but miners are willing to relocate to other parts of the country if needed.
