World of Women, in collaboration with Tezos, is working towards promoting gender equality within the Web3 space. By partnering with Tezos, WoW aims to broaden its impact and empower more women by providing connectivity and support.
Kathleen Breitman, a well-known figure in the blockchain industry and the co-founder of Tezos, stated, “WoW has made a significant impact for women globally in the web3 space. Tezos’ advanced technology, industry knowledge, and extensive network can enhance WoW’s influence for a new era of growth.”
It is noted by WoW and Tezos that women are significantly underrepresented in the Web3 sector, with male-led ventures receiving four times more investment. This highlights the ongoing challenges women face in securing funding, recognition, and support.
While women make up 37% of cryptocurrency holders, they only constitute 27% of the web3 workforce and 13% of startup founding teams, according to data from the Boston Consulting Group.
Shannon Snow, COO of World of Women, expressed, “Women are not adequately represented or supported in web3, just as they have been historically in tech and finance. However, their contributions and potential are immense. WoW aims to harness the collective power of women in web3 and beyond, providing opportunities to amplify their impact in art, technology, and culture.”
In efforts to support female-led startups in the blockchain industry, Bitget launched the “Blockchain4Her” initiative, including an incubation program specifically tailored for female entrepreneurs and a $10 million fund.
Bitget also highlighted gender disparities in the VC ecosystem, revealing that blockchain startups received $27.85 billion between January 2022 and Q3 2023, with female-led Web3 firms only attracting $1.77 billion. This bias limits opportunities for women and hinders the broader adoption of crypto in female-related fields within traditional finance.
Diversity in the crypto industry is crucial as it brings a variety of perspectives, talents, and experiences to the forefront, fostering innovation, resilience, and wider adoption. To learn more about Cryptonews’ most influential women in Crypto 2024, click here.
