ZKsync Plans Massive Airdrop of 3.675 Billion ZK Tokens to 695K Wallets in the Coming Week
ZKsync, the first zkEVM chain on the Ethereum network, is gearing up to distribute 3.675 billion ZK tokens to 695,232 wallets next week. This airdrop is set to be the largest among major rollups and aims to promote decentralized governance while rewarding active members of the community.
In a recent announcement on June 11, ZKsync disclosed that 17.5% of the total token supply of 21 billion would be allocated to eligible wallets. The remaining tokens are designated for various projects, the zkSync team, investors, and a “token assembly.”
The distribution will prioritize genuine users and contributors within the ZKsync ecosystem. The airdrop will be split into two main categories: 89% for users who have engaged in transactions on ZKsync, and 11% for contributors such as developers, researchers, and community advocates.
Additionally, 49.1% of the token supply will be distributed through ecosystem initiatives, with 17.2% going to investors and 16.1% to the Matter Labs team.
The ZKsync Association stated, “Awarding more tokens in the airdrop than to the Matter Labs team and investors is more than just a symbolic gesture for the community. When the ZKsync governance system goes live in the coming weeks, the community will have a significant supply of liquid tokens to influence protocol upgrades.”
Community members can check their eligibility and claim their tokens via the claim portal starting next week. The claim period will run until January 3, 2025, with specific deadlines for GitHub developers and ZKsync GitHub Discussion Helpers to link their addresses by June 25, 2024.
Prior to the airdrop, ZK tokens were trading at $0.71 on pre-market exchanges like Aevo and PancakeSwap, indicating a market capitalization of around $14.91 billion.
ZKsync has detailed its airdrop plan, emphasizing genuine user engagement and equitable distribution. Eligibility and allocations are based on activity snapshots taken on March 24, 2024, the first anniversary of the ZKsync Era mainnet launch. The allocation process involves multiple steps to ensure fairness and prevent abuse.
The team at ZKsync is committed to promoting a fair distribution of tokens and discouraging exploitative practices. They have allocated a small percentage of tokens for experimental communities, including participants in activities on decentralized social networks and NFT projects.
