Lido Staking Fraud Results in Compromise of Ethereum Foundation Email

The Ethereum Foundation has revealed that its email account, which is used for updates, was hacked on June 23 in a phishing scam targeting its subscribers. However, the foundation has since regained control of the account and has put a stop to the distribution of malicious emails. The phishing scam reached over 35,000 people, but no cryptocurrency losses were reported, although the email addresses of 81 subscribers may have been compromised. The scam involved a fake partnership between the Ethereum Foundation and LidoDAO, offering a 6.8% annual return on staked cryptocurrency. The attackers used a combination of their own email list and stolen email addresses from the Ethereum Foundation’s mailing list. Despite this incident, overall cryptocurrency hacks saw a decline in June, with losses dropping to $176 million compared to May’s $385 million.
