Dominic Williams, the Founder and Chief Scientist of the DFINITY Foundation, recently sat down for an exclusive interview with Cryptonews Podcast host Matt Zahab. They discussed various topics including the future of AI, the relationship between AI and blockchain, hosting AI models on the blockchain, and the potential of multichain DeFi.

Williams highlighted the potential of AI running smart contracts on blockchains. He explained that the Internet Computer (ICP) blockchain, which aims to function as a decentralized cloud, can enable AI models to operate entirely on the blockchain without the need for centralized cloud providers like Amazon Web Services. Williams emphasized that the Internet Computer blockchain is capable of acting as a “crypto cloud” where anything can be built with smart contracts. He mentioned that it can process a high number of transactions per second and has the memory and compute power to run AI.

Williams also discussed the partnership between AI and blockchain, stating that blockchain is the only way to create a tamper-proof and unstoppable compute platform for AI. He highlighted the importance of strong blockchain-based authentication to ensure the security and reliability of AI models. Williams mentioned that AI can be used to simplify complex tasks in the crypto and DeFi space, allowing users to perform transactions and trades with verbal instructions to AI crypto wallets.

In terms of hosting AI models on the blockchain, Williams explained that the Internet Computer allows users to choose the level of replication for their AI models. He mentioned that the blockchain is moving to 64-bit WebAssembly soon, which will increase the maximum amount of main memory and enable the blockchain to run large language models. Williams also mentioned the use of Single Instruction/Multiple Data instructions to speed up AI smart contracts.

Williams discussed the future development of the Internet Computer, focusing on optimizing it to run larger AI models efficiently. He mentioned the project called Utopia, which aims to create private Internet Computers that can integrate with the public Internet Computer and with each other. Williams emphasized the technical advancements of the Internet Computer, noting that it is a genuine decentralized operating system that runs across multiple compute units.

Finally, Williams highlighted the three lanes of blockchain technology. He explained that the Internet Computer blockchain falls into the third lane, which is the “world computer blockchain.” He emphasized the difference between the Internet Computer and traditional blockchains that primarily host smart contracts, stating that the Internet Computer is already a serverless cloud where users can create online systems and services using smart contract software.

Overall, Dominic Williams provided insights into the future of AI, the potential of AI on the blockchain, and the advancements of the Internet Computer blockchain.
