Nvidia and Vietnamese IT company FPT have joined forces to establish a $200 million artificial intelligence (AI) factory in Vietnam. This collaboration, announced on April 23, aims to create a hub for AI and cloud computing services in the Asian country.
The partnership will see FPT and the Nvidia AI factory function as a “sovereign cloud,” focusing on AI research and development using Nvidia’s latest technologies. These include Nvidia AI Enterprise software, frameworks, and Nvidia H100 Tensor Core GPUs.
The Nvidia AI factory will offer cloud GPU services to FPT’s corporate customers globally, providing them with access to essential resources to enhance research capacity, scale AI applications, and achieve productivity and customer experience goals.
The primary objective of this collaboration is to position Vietnam as a global “AI hub” while also accelerating the adoption of AI applications in neighboring countries like Japan and South Korea.
As part of the partnership, FPT has become a Service Delivery Partner in the “NVIDIA Partner Network” and a Global Systems Integrator. This enables the IT firm to leverage Nvidia’s advanced products and technologies to develop customized cloud services, hardware, software, and generative AI solutions.
During the signing ceremony, Dr. Truong Gia Binh, Chairman and Founder of FPT Corporation, expressed his excitement about the partnership, emphasizing FPT’s commitment to digital transformation, AI, cloud, and education. He stated that FPT aims to enhance its R&D capabilities and establish a comprehensive platform for cutting-edge products and services built on AI and cloud technologies. The ultimate vision is to make Vietnam a global AI hub through collaboration with Nvidia in technology, business development, and training.
Keith Strier, Vice President of Worldwide AI Initiative at Nvidia, commented on the potential of AI to enhance lives and strengthen economies across various sectors, including healthcare, agriculture, climate, and manufacturing. He highlighted that the partnership between FPT and Nvidia will empower organizations in Vietnam to drive transformation and position the country as a leader in AI technology.
The collaboration between FPT and Nvidia follows the trend of major tech firms making significant investments in the AI industry worldwide. For instance, Microsoft recently invested $1.5 billion in G42, an AI-based company in the UAE, to power its AI services and applications using Microsoft’s Azure cloud computing platform. Microsoft has also made substantial investments in AI infrastructure in Germany and Spain.
Amazon has invested $4 billion in Anthropic, a rival AI startup to ChatGPT. These investments reflect the growing potential of the AI sector, with projections indicating that it will be worth $184 billion by the end of 2024 and $826 billion by 2030, according to Statista data.
These projections, coupled with the success of OpenAI’s GPT models, continue to drive investments from Microsoft and other tech companies as they strive to become leaders in AI innovation and generate substantial income.
